Am I in priority need for homelessness?

Priority need under section 189 Housing Act 1996 determines whether the council must secure accommodation for you (the full s.193 duty) or only offer assistance to find your own.

The "priority need" assessment is one of the most consequential decisions in homelessness law. If wrongly assessed, you can request a section 202 review within 21 days. Get free help from Shelter or a housing solicitor under Legal Aid (housing law is in scope).

Are you, or is anyone you live with, pregnant?

Pregnancy alone gives priority need from any point in pregnancy. The council often asks for medical evidence (a Mat B1 or letter from midwife/GP).
