About this tool — how it works
This tool takes the postcode you enter and queries two live, external services at the same time: the UK Parliament members API, which returns your constituency and its current sitting MP (including their name, party, and a link to their contact page on Parliament.uk), and Postcodes.io, which returns your local council area. Unlike the site’s other tools, it does not apply any rules of its own — it simply displays whatever these two services return for the postcode you searched.
Because the data is fetched live, results can change between searches as Parliament’s records are updated, and the tool cannot answer for a constituency where the seat is currently vacant — it reports this rather than showing an incorrect name. It also depends on the postcode you enter being valid and recognised by Postcodes.io; an invalid or unrecognised postcode returns an error rather than a guess.
The tool identifies your representative and council, and links to your MP’s official contact page — it does not draft a letter, submit a complaint, or contact anyone on your behalf. Where does the MP and council data come from?
The tool queries two live services when you submit a postcode: the UK Parliament members API, to find the constituency and its current sitting MP, and Postcodes.io, to identify your local council (admin district). Nothing is stored on our own site — every result is fetched fresh.
Why might it say a constituency has no sitting MP?
This happens when a seat is currently vacant, for example between a resignation and a by-election. The tool reports this directly rather than guessing who represents you, because the Parliament API has no current member record to return.
How current is the result?
It reflects whatever the Parliament API currently holds, which is normally up to date, but the tool notes that very recent by-election results may not appear immediately. It does not cache old lookups, so a repeat search always re-queries the live data.
What can I do with my MP’s details once I find them?
