How this is calculated
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme 2012 requires applications to be made within 2 years of the incident. CICA may extend the deadline in exceptional circumstances — particularly:
- Childhood abuse where the applicant was under 18 at the time;
- Late disclosure due to mental capacity, abuse dynamics, or post-traumatic stress;
- Where the applicant could not reasonably have applied earlier.
Apply as early as possible. Late applications must explain the delay clearly with supporting evidence.
